GRAPHIC ARTS STUDENT WINS THIRD IN NATIONAL BOOK COVER CONTEST Angelina College graphic arts student Alex Jones won third place in a contest to design the cover for a soon-to-be-released suspense novel, Hulagu's Web" by David Hearne. The book is about Katherine Laforge, a female U.S. senator who is running for president. If elected, she will be the first woman president in the history of the United States. The suspense revolves around her presidential pursuit. Angelina College graphic arts students met with the author, who is a computer programmer in Beaumont, to discuss the story before designing their covers for the contest. Their entries were posted on the author's website, http://www.hulagusweb.com/, and the winner selected by a panel of judges. Internet viewers also voted for their favorite designs from the possible covers submitted from around the world. The first prize winner received $500 and publication. For his third place entry, Alex Jones, a graduate of Lufkin High School, received $10, a $25 gift certificate from DickBlick and a tee-shirt. All the students who entered the contest received a $5 coupon toward the purchase of the book. Entering the contest was a project in Reginald Reynolds' graphic arts class.
